The convertible chair bed can come in many shapes and sizes, the difficulty can be finding the one which is best for your needs.

Futon Convertible
The foam option
This is the cheapest type of convertible chair bed and if you are looking for a bed suitable for an adult this is probably the least comfortable. However, if you are looking for something for a kid or teenager then this could be the perfect solution. These are fairly small when in chair form, so they will not take up too much space. Since they are often sold with kids in mind they often have washable covers, so perfect for your childs room.
The futon option
If you like futons then these are perfect. The futon mattress will offer a comfortable nights sleep, while not breaking the bank balance. The only issue with this is that the futon is very low to the ground. This will be fine for most people, but some adults may not like the idea.
The armchair option
This is really like a small sofa bed, and it does take up quite a bit of space, even as a chair. As an armchair it is well padded and comfortable. As a bed it is a good nights sleep. The mattress, although thin, is supported in on a mesh which is held to a metal frame with springs, creating a cushions and comfortable nights sleep. It does however come at a price and is the most expensive option. These do tend to last very well, so if you look at it as an investment, it is a sensible one to make.
Before you choose an furniture for a room you need to estimate how much it will be used as a bed and how much it will be used as a chair. Next look at where you want to place it and how much space you can allocate. Finally review what is available within your budget.
